Laura Heggins
Owner / Trainer
With over three decades of distinguished service in law enforcement, Laura Heggins brings a legacy of leadership, compassion, and expertise to every role she undertakes. As a Retired Captain with the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office, Laura dedicated 30 years to public safety, including 22 years as a Crisis Negotiator—16 of those as Team Leader. Her ability to connect with diverse personalities and apply advanced listening techniques made her a trusted figure in high-stakes situations and a mentor to many.
Laura holds multiple instructor certifications through the State of North Carolina, including:
• General Instructor for Basic Law Enforcement
• CPR Instructor
• Detention Officer Instructor
• General Instructor for Instructors
Her instructional focus spans critical areas such as mental health awareness, leadership development, assertive communication, and personal growth. As both a Captain and Crisis Negotiator, Laura specialized in empowering others to recognize their self-worth, make sound decisions, and cultivate leadership skills that extend beyond the badge and into the community.
Since 2022, Laura has continued her commitment to education as a Basic Law Enforcement Coordinator and Instructor at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, and as a General Instructor at Guilford Community College. Her teaching style is rooted in real-world experience, strategic thinking, and a passion for developing the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
Outside the classroom, Laura is a creative spirit and active community member. She enjoys crafting, sewing, baking, and fishing, and is deeply involved in her church and volunteer efforts. Her dedication to service—whether in uniform or in everyday life—is driven by a belief in continuous growth and the power of inspiring others to become the best version of themselves.
